MEETING NOTICE

The Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway (US Hwy 75) Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m.,

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the RC&D office at 408 N Oakland Avenue in Oakland, NE.

 

Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010 by President John Slader at the RC&D office at Oakland.  Members present were Joy Johnson, Brent Clark, Mark Schulze, Kent Neumann, Shane Miller, Johnna Miller and Dick Leitschuck.  Other present were Deb Ward, RC&D Program Assistant and Twyla Witt, Nebraska DED Division of Travel and Tourism.  Self introductions were made and Brent Clark, Director of South Sioux City CVB was welcomed.

 

Motion and second to approve the agenda with two additions carried.

Motion and second to approve the Minutes of the April 14, 2010 meeting with correction of the spelling of Johnna Miller carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report- Receipts of $205.00 (memberships), expenditures of $1,000.00 (Repayment of S Sioux City CVB Interim Loan) and a 4/30/10 account balance of $1,319.33. Motion and second to accept the Treasurer’s Report carried.

 

Correspondence

Nebraska State Fair- Booths available for the 8/27/10 to 9/6/10 Fair at Grand Island, NE at www.statefair.org .  Seeking Volunteers for working at the Nebraska Division of Travel and Tourism Booth.  Contact heather.hogue@nebraska.gov or call 402-471-3796.  This would also provide the volunteer an opportunity to distribute local tourism brochures.

 

Committee Reports

Membership- 64 total 2010 Memberships to date (4/30/10) with 45 Individuals and 19 Partners and $1,630 dues and postage received to date.  Twyla Witt suggests sending letters of welcome to new Byway members.

 

Travel Notebooks and CDs- $121.50 sales of Notebooks to date and $546.00 sales of CDs to date.  We are receiving our first receipt from a purchase through Pay Pal.

 

Old Business

Tonwantonga Historical Marker Site- Trying to secure a Garden Club to maintain the vegetation.  The drive needs repair.  Need a Memo of Understanding with the Nebraska Department of Roads and the Byway for responsibilities at the site,.

 

Art Tour-“Looking for Art”- Deb Ward reported that most of the 32 exhibitors at the six locations for the April 17-18, 2010 Art Tour indicated that they would participate in another such event.  The project secured 34 new Byway Members.  Attendance at this year’s event was approximately 450.  This was a joint project with the Nebraska Loess Hills RC&D.  Suggestions received for improving the event included more directional signage, different locations, more advertising and combining the event with other shows.

President John Slader presented Deb Ward with a Card of Thanks and a Gift Card from the Byway Committee for all her efforts to make the Art Tour a success.

 

New Business

Art Show- Contact information on an Art Show opportunity in Onawa, Iowa in conjunction with the Lewis and Clark Festival on June 11-13, 2010 will be sent to all Byway members.

 

Northeast Nebraska Travel Council Membership- Motion and second to pay the $50 dues for a July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 NNTC membership for the Byway with Deb Ward as our contact carried. 

 

Letter of Support- Motion and second for the Byway to provide a letter of support for a grant application for the Woodland Trails Art Center carried.

 

Sgt Floyd Riverboat Museum and Information Center- The Nebraska Travel Guide at the Information Center would only take one box of the Nebraska Byway publication because of limited storage space.

 

Pow Wow- Joy Johnson reported on a possible labor Day Pow Wow for the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

 

Travel and Tourism- Twyla Witt reported on the Nebraska Byway publication, RV Roadtrip, the Nebraska Tourism Inserts in Newspapers in surrounding states, tourism coop ad opportunities and the NTA “Works for You” web site.  Brent Clark would like to use the Tourism Insert in local Newspapers.

 

Tourism Workshop- Brent Clark attended the workshop at Red Cloud on May 18, 2010.
